BOARD OF DIRECTORS

We’d like to introduce you to our amazing board members. We asked them three simple questions to give you a glimpse into who they are beyond their roles at the club. Their answers reflect the diverse experiences and passions that make our community special. Dive in to learn more about the incredible people who help make Kronos the welcoming and supportive place it is!

1. What’s your professional background? | 2. How do you like to spend your free time? | 3. What do you appreciate about Kronos, and why?

CORY STEINKE

President | Fundraising Committee Chair | Kronos Parent

Cory has over 25 years of experience in technology and food service management. He currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Synergy Purchasing Partners, where he leads innovation and sets the strategic direction in the hospitality and procurement sectors.

In his free time, Cory supports his kids in their activities outside of triathlon, including cycling, swimming, and dance.

Cory appreciates the multisport aspect of Kronos, as it allows his children to train in all three disciplines of triathlon with professional coaching. He values the club's atmosphere, which fosters inclusion, hard work, and a strong sense of community, providing an ideal environment for his children to thrive.

PHIL LABRECQUE

Vice President | Programs & Coaches Committee Chair | Kronos Parent

Phil is a geologist and has been working in mining and oil and gas since 2010.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, playing bass guitar, and traveling to various races and gymnastics competitions to support and cheer for his children!

To him, Kronos is about teaching young athletes to compete not only against others but against themselves as well. Under the guidance of an excellent team of coaches, the club helps athletes achieve their best through hard work, dedication, and perseverance. His son told him that Kronos means a lot to him because he has "found his people," and Steve has noticed this himself as he sees athletes and friends competing to win while never forgetting to cheer their teammates on to the finish line!

SARAH WADMAN

Director at Large | CKOS Committee Chair | Kronos Parent

Sarah has a Master's degree in Physical Education and Administration, as well as an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and a teaching degree in Physical Education and French Immersion Education. She has experience teaching in New Zealand and England and has been teaching Physical Education and French Immersion in Canada since 2006.

In her free time, Sarah enjoys training for and participating in triathlons, playing field hockey, biking, and skiing with her family, and volunteering with St John Ambulance alongside her therapy dog, Willa.

She appreciates the Kronos Triathlon Club because it fosters an inclusive environment, having recently welcomed athletes with physical limitations in various programs. Additionally, she values the presence of both male and female coaches who provide strong leadership and lead by example throughout the season. Kronos also offers athletes volunteer opportunities to give back to the club and the community in diverse ways.

MATT ZINKEN

Secretary | Bylaws & Procedures | Kronos Parent

Matt is currently an Assistant Principal at an elementary school in Calgary. His background includes teaching and strategizing to support students with special needs.

A musician at heart, he plays drums with the Corazones. Like many dads, his smoker has also become a large part of his personality. He enjoys cycling, tolerates running, and is begrudgingly working on his swim to keep up with the rest of his family.

When they started with Kronos, Matt wasn't expecting such a team aspect for an individual sport. The coaches have done phenomenal work to create a team culture focused on developing character as well as triathlon skills. It's great to see how the kids support each other, challenge one another, and celebrate each other's successes.

TRACY LEISHMAN

Director at Large | Bookkeeper | Kronos Parent

Tracy is a mom to three teenagers with different interests, with only one on the Kronos team. Her professional background is in Architecture Technology, working in both commercial and residential design, currently as a Senior Designer for a North American homebuilder. Over the years, she also homeschooled her way to becoming a Certified Personal Trainer and NCCP Competition Coach.

In her free time, Tracy enjoys training for multi-sport events of many types, walking and running with her dog, growing vegetables, and engaging with her daughters’ activities. She follows many sports beyond triathlon and cycling, including CrossFit and Formula 1.

Two things Tracy appreciates about Kronos are: first, the community (get involved, you will meet amazing friends) and second, the diversity (a variety of athletes from different backgrounds, ages, and goals who all respect and cheer for each other for showing up and always giving their best effort). She has helped the club in various roles, including assistant coaching, bookkeeping, and now on the Board of Directors. Tracy has also taken the first steps in the Provincial triathlon officiating stream. Her passion with the club is being a voice for the athletes regarding individualizing their athletic paths based on personal passions and dreams while helping with fundraising projects and grant opportunities.

STEVE QUINN

Director at Large | CKOS Committee Member | Kronos Parent

Steve is a CPA with a background in economics. He has worked in the securities industry since the early 2000s.

With two teenage children involved in competitive sports, Steve moonlights (as does his wife) as a dedicated shuttle driver—but truly loves it. In recent years, Steve has learned to swim during his son’s triathlon practices (thanks to lessons on the side from Kronos' coaching staff) and has competed in a number of 70.3 and Ironman events.

Steve views Kronos as a leader in the triathlon space in Calgary given its range of offerings for athletes of all ages and abilities, and he appreciates the dedication of the club and its coaches to the development of each athlete's triathlon goals and overall physical and mental well-being.

ANDREA MELE

Director at Large | Marketing Committee Chair | Kronos Parent

Andrea brings over 15 years of experience in the corporate world, business consulting, and entrepreneurship, shaped by her journey across Europe and Canada. With a master’s degree in economics, she transitioned to studying nutrition after relocating to Canada. Andrea founded a company producing fresh dairy-free milk and is now focused on nutrition. Currently, she runs a small school kitchen preparing meals for children.

Andrea enjoys her triathlon training, reading, gardening, and a cup of good coffee.

What she loves about Kronos is how the coaches emphasize building mental strength in the kids. They focus on teaching perseverance and help them learn to handle tough moments, like losing a race or pushing through their limits. It's a valuable skill to have, both in triathlon and in everyday life. Plus, Kronos has given Andrea and her daughter an additional way to connect. When her daughter started, Andrea took the opportunity to learn to swim and dive into triathlon herself. Even though her daughter beats her every time, it’s a lovely bonding experience for them.
